A 6"2, heavily tattoo'd gentle giant who shares an unexpected sensitivity through country flavoured songwriting.
Not afraid to buck the trend, Ryan crafts songs that pose questions against the modern norms and darker problems in today's world.
Ryan is the multi instrumentalist and sole songwriter, inspired by his upbringing and new life as a father to 2 boys, everyone wants to be Rural, but no one wants to be Lonely.
Feeling desolate in his Scottish village, he lives his Nashville dream through this project.
Jordan Davis, Tucker Wetmore, Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Riley Green, Jelly Roll, Ernest, Thomas Rhett.
Modern country music that tackles the harder side of life, with real instrument performances and restrained use of technology and electronics.
The homely familiar Nashville feel, with an alternative take on singing tone and higher focus on instrumental writing and tackling darker topics that the typical country song.
Ryan is the multi instrumentalist, seeking support for a few specialist instruments, which can be heard in the holistic feel of his music.
Although a single figure, Ryan performs with professionally created backing tracks adding subtle layers, elevating a typical acoustic performance.
Harmonies, piano and percussion make acoustic covers and interpretations of full band originals, engage crowds at venues large and small.
The authenticity and originality of the likes of City & Colour, the raw instrumentation of Luke Combs and the rough vocal styles of Riley Green.
Sounds and words that you can sing along to, whilst questioning the topics and problems explored.
As much as I love and respect the classic country artists, I’ve always related more with the darker, folk and blues inspired country music.
Following my move from heavy rock into country, I searched for other acts who had followed that same path, this lead me to John Mellencamp.
He has a song called Rural Route, which tells of a dark story, and the words rural are repeated throughout the song, but the lyric “just walking home alone, on the rural route” resonated with my upbringing in a quiet coastal village on the west of Scotland, with the solitude and darkness that comes with the beautiful scenery and peace & quiet.
Although this project is just me, I personally don’t feel right using my name as the project’s identity, like another of my heroes, Dallas Green, who goes by City & Colour.
