I was on a dirt road, going no where, tryna’ get gone
Thinking ‘bout the last thing she said “boy, you’re all wrong”
Had my shades on, couldn’t see nothing from inside of the fog
I could still hear it in my head
“There’s gotta be more to life than this”
Gotta be more than this
It’s hard to see the bottom of the bottle
It’s hard to be an angel when you’re lost
Sometimes you just need a change in the weather
When you’re tryna’ get better
And sometimes you just need to drive
The further I got, the clearer it got, the road was like my head
I don’t need no therapy, the drive clear my head
Had that face on, couldnt see nothing from inside the side of the road
There’s gotta be more to life than this
Gotta be more than this
People are all a little crazy
People are all a little wild
Some of ‘em have trouble when they’re born
Some of ‘em have trouble being a child
Some of ‘em need some education
Some of ‘em need a little time
Some of ‘em do a lot of drinking
Some of ‘em need a lotta wine
Life is like a rodeo
It’s a bumpy ride, up and down you go
It’s a show, but it’s only so long
You just can’t tell what’s coming then it’s gone
Some of ‘em need to get the last word
Some of ‘em just need a ride home
Some of ‘em make the best of friends
Some of ‘em just want to be alone
Some of ‘em got lost in the static
Some of ‘em need a little push
Some of ‘em get there by magic
Some of ‘em do it by the book
Are you the rider or the bull?
Have you lived your life to the full?
It would be boring if It was easy
And it’s so pure if you’re not greedy
I hear the city calling with it’s buzzing neon lights
Sky scrapers reaching up to touch the starlit nights
But I’d rather hear the crickets, the whispers of the streams
Than busy streets and traffic noise invading all my dreams
They got coffee bars and towers
Fast lanes and fancy suits
But I’ll take dirt roads twisting round fields of corn and roots
The smell of hay in summer rain’s the perfume I adore
Not gasoline and crowded trains I don’t need anymore
Give me those wide open plains
Where the sky’s an endless blue sky
The morning sun paints golden hues
And the air feels clean and true
Let the big world fade behind me
I don’t miss it’s fast parade
I’ll stand tall with the mountains
In the peace that here is made
The city speaks of progress with it’s steel and glass displays
But here beneath the walnut tree, my heart’s compelled to stay
Where time moves slow, it’s gentle, like the river’s steady flow
No rush to chase tomorrow, just a life I love to know
The hum of bees, the barnyard smells, a rooster’s morning cry
I’d trade those crowded avenues for stars to light my sky
You can keep your concrete tower and the lights that blind the stars
I’ll take this patch of country grass with Venus shining far
I love the look of that weather
It means we’re staying inside
Im not a big fan of jackets
But I’ve got you to keep me dry
The outside world can keep on weeping
Let the rain fall from the sky, baby
I know what you’re thinking
and it’s the same thing that’s on my mind
Cause I got a pocket full of sunshine
And it don’t matter whats going on, outside
Cause the look in your eyes
Can brighten top my whole life
So when the forecast says rain
That’s a chance I gotta take
You can call me insane
But I find the beauty in the rain
So baby pour a warm drink
And let the storm come rolling in
You don’t have to worry about a thing
Time to sit back and let it get dim
Every time the rain falls
It brings me back to you
The thunder shakes the walls
And the lightning splits the room
We get caught in the rain
While we’re driving home
Lay on the hood,
you look up at the moon
You say its no good
But I love the sound
It was late in the summer,
when the men first called
To say they'd just got word
That the storm took my father,
and they'd done all they could
And they asked what I'd prefer
So I went down to the coast
And I gathered what I loved most
The Bible, the bottle, and the gun
My daddy's boots and his tobacco
and the bullets that he loved
The Bible, the bottle, and the gun
The fishin' hooks and his tobacco
and the bullets that he loved
I've been talkin' to the preacher,
who said my daddy's gone
To a place I can't go yet
But the whiskey is keepin' me
from wantin' to be strong
When the pain won't let me rest
So I laid out on the coast
And I gathered what I loved most
Sometimes a memory makes you laugh
But some nights it hurts so bad
You just want them back
A drop of whisky helps you chill
But a couple more and you find yourself
Feeling like hell
Yeah the fire burns high
It can burn you up
And the sun can shine
Or it can blind your love
A little is all I need to get me through
But a little too much and I’m missing you
We don’t talk and that’s ok
Cause when we do it breaks my heart
To hear you say
It’s the difference between holding on and
letting go of who you were and who you are
Big skies got me spread too wide
Boots on till my dreams collide
That texan heat I’d wear real proud
whispers pull me back too loud
Texas you’re a song that’s sung
Calling me like a church bell rung
My homes a weight I can’t let go
Splits my heart in 2 you know
BBQ smoke and endless stars
Honky tonk roads stretch out so far
Courage soft like my grandma’s hands
They tether me tight to familiar lands
It ain’t the land, it aint the sky
It’s the faces waving goodbye
Can’t hold a cowboy’s dreams so tight
Or he leaves his roots in the cold of night
Hands on the wheel, my heart sways
One foot in dreams, the other stays
Lodestar dreams carved deep out there
Family keeps me put right here
Blood on the ground, smoke in the air
Every scar is a story we share
stand up tall, with fire in our eyes
We play as one beneath the Glasgow skies
We are Warriors, we don't break
standing tall whatever it takes
Through the storm, through the game
Together we rise again
Shadows creep, but we light their flame
Lost in the dark but we call their names
Heart beats fast like a battle drum
Together we rise, we back down for none
Our chain will hold, their blade won't bite
We dont run from the enemy's fight
Hit by hit, they wont tear it down
Our fortress holds and no one drowns
Sky all hazy sun barely shines
Earth is crying louder than the pines
Waters rising swallowing the shore
Can't keep living like we did before
Hear the wind scream feel the oceans rage
Every broken promise every torn-out page
A world we borrowed now we betray
Dust in the air nothing grows that way
Fields once golden now burnt to grey
Rivers choking where they used to play
Birds fell silent no songs to sing
Time ticking louder for everything
Won't you see it can't you see it
Every tree torn down we bleed it
No rewind no restart
To save the home we tore apart
How much longer 'til we care
Or will we just pretend we're unaware
The cost is heavy the clock strikes one
The damage we leave undone
Hear the wind scream feel the oceans rage
Every broken promise every torn-out page
A world we borrowed now we betray
Dust in the air nothing grows that way
Ticking hands scrape at my door
they don’t sleep they don’t tire
Dreams of youth
caught in flames like a moth in a fire
Mirror cracks showing lines
time paints on my face
Running fast but no one’s giving second place
Shadows on my horizon creeping slow creeping deep
Fear of the days piling high on the heap
Old bones a cage for my younger soul
Scared to lose the spark that kept me bold
Every birthday feels like a funeral in disguise
Candles flicker laughing echoes back my cries
Friends fade like whispers into the tide
Left with ghosts who sit haunting by my side
Tried to fight with denial that slippery beast
But it wrestles me down its grip won’t cease
Childhood far like a star fading in night
Every breath feels like a fleeting flight
Lace up the shoes or tape up the fists now
Dream it aloud and I’ll show you somehow
Twirl in the light or swing to the bell
Boy I’ll stand tall while you raise your own hell
Through the ropes or on their toes
The fire inside only each kid knows
I’m the call, when life sends lows
Through the ropes or on their toes
Pirouette spins or bloody knuckles tight
Grace takes form or a storm for a fight
Each their own way, I’ll never let go
One mounts the world, the other lands blows
Hand on their back, doesn’t matter the place
One with precision and 1 with tough grace
To the stage to the mat, But I’ll make it clear
This father stays shouting your name through the air
Let them choose wild
Let ‘em fight pain
Win or lose,
Heart is never in vein
Ballet or the bouts, they’re all the same
It’s theirs to walk or break through the rain
Big skies got me spread too wide
Boots on till my dreams collide
That texan heat I’d wear real proud
whispers pull me back too loud
Texas you’re a song that’s sung
Calling me like a church bell rung
My homes a weight I can’t let go
